The city of the mutilated past sees a future of war approaching. Kaliningrad is at the same time the most powerful stronghold and the raw nerve of Russia: the former Konigsberg of the Teutonic knights and the ancient Prussian capital, it is now the military outpost of Moscow surrounded by NATO countries. For this reason, the Lithuanian decision to apply European sanctions and block many of the freight trains bound for Kaliningrad risks opening a very high-tension crisis, higher than those seen so far since the invasion of Ukraine.
