Bianco: «Let’s name the Borgo Cavour office after the writer». Among the underwriters, the former director of the Museums Eugenio Manzato
TREVISO. They had already tried a couple of years ago, a little lukewarmly, on the occasion of the fifty years of the death of Giovanni Comisso, but the Municipality did not find it appropriate and it ended there. This time, however, after appropriate considerations shared with the Shareholders’ Meeting, the Friends of Giovanni Comisso Association has decided to start from dialogue with citizens to return to ask the Municipality that the Civic Library of Borgo Cavour be named after Giovanni Comisso.
The request, this time, therefore arises from the main Treviso associations, Amici di Comisso in the lead: Rotary Club Treviso (who saved the writer’s archive from dispersion by donating it to the Municipality), University of Treviso, Carbon paper, Società Dante Alighieri of Treviso, BETWEEN Treviso Art Research, Culture Theme, Treviso Comic Book Festival ed [e]DEsignFestival.
And they found dozens of supporters in just a few hours. “My phone is under siege,” he says between amused and proud Ennio Bianco, president of the Amici di Comisso Association. “We opened the petition at 10 and we had at 16 already collected over 120 signatures, while many people continue to call me and express their convinced adherence to the initiative. Then, I confess, I lost sight of the counter a bit, because I am busy at the Veneto Memorial of the Great War in Biadene to set up the exhibition “Giovanni Comisso and Mario Botter in the D’Annunzio River” which will inaugurate on 11 July ».
Here: it is perhaps right here, in the active and tireless involvement of Bianco and the association that he presides in enhancing the work of Giovanni Comisso, that much of the consensus that the initiative has received must be sought. Perhaps never like in recent years the work of the Treviso writer has been valued not only in academic circles but in many areas of his city, which seems to have rediscovered and renewed its memory thanks to the many initiatives that make the Giovanni Comisso Literary Award not an annual event but a sort of study center open all year round, even during the closures imposed by the pandemic, thanks to its lively activity in the web.
It is a less timid request than the first this which asks the Municipality to reconsider the opportunity, the validity of which is also supported by the prompt adhesion of illustrious subscribers such as Eugenio Manzato, Don Paolo Barbisan, Alessandro Cinquegrani, Chiara Casarin and many other personalities of the Treviso culture.
“I cannot predict how it will end”, Bianco emphasizes, “but I can certainly affirm that the first signatories have joined the initiative with genuine enthusiasm and the common will to remember Comisso with an important title such as that of Civic library, where among other things the writer’s archive is kept. An archive that today is the subject of an important digitization work supported by the Municipality and the Region, and also of a massive increase by virtue of the many journalistic articles of Comisso that we are researching and acquiring in digital form throughout Italy ».
