Works and strategies for Nevegal, an agreement is born between seven entities

by admin

The first objectives have already been listed, from the artificial lake to the high-altitude connection between Belluno and Limana

BELLUNO. Four Municipalities, two Mountain Unions and the Province together for the tourist development of the Nevegal ridge. A program agreement is being drawn up between the local authorities most directly interested in the Prealps area, with the aim of signing a collaboration aimed at the realization of public works useful for promoting the local development of the Nevegal area, at least between Quantin and Valmorel, but Borgo Valbelluna is also among the entities involved.

Joining forces for Belluno, Limana, Ponte nelle Alpi, Borgo Valbelluna, the Province and the Valbelluna and Belluno-Ponte mountain unions, will also help to find the necessary resources for the projects that will be put in place.

This is the case of the Nevegal lake, the new storage basin conceived as a useful water resource both for the safety of the area in case of fire, and as a water reserve for artificial snow, as well as a tourist attraction. Also on the Colle, the redevelopment project of the square also enters the program agreement through the arrangement of street furniture with the placement of new furnishings. Among the projects there is also the one that involves the construction of a new pastoral forest road connecting Belluno and Limana at high altitude, passing through Case Valdart, Boschet, i For, Val della Fontana, Valle di Sant’Antonio and Casera Valpiana. This route stems from the need to improve access to the area for forestry activities (in particular the recovery of crashes caused by Vaia) and to guarantee the continuous management of the forest resource, but it will certainly also be appreciated by hikers and mountain bikers .

The program agreement also recalls three other projects on which the administrations involved have committed themselves, in collaboration with other realities. These are: the work table “Belluno Alpina, Borghi del Visentin” with the “Ronce 2020” project aimed at combating the depopulation of the pre-Alpine area (a forestry consortium will be born in the former school of Le Ronce); the conception of the operating manual for the signposting of the itineraries present in the Valbelluna territory with a census of forest roads and paths and the unification of the relative signs; and finally the project “The mountains of Buzzati: protecting and enhancing the Belluno medium mountains” which united the Municipalities of Belluno (leader) and Limana that applied for the Habitat call of the Cariverona Foundation.

The agreement starts from the premise that tourism has a driving economic function for the development of the area and therefore to counteract its depopulation and will therefore be the basis of the strategies developed and the center of attention. Of course, without forgetting the economic decline suffered by the sector in the last two decades and its reasons, mainly due to an evolution in the demands of tourists, a reduction in the services offered, but above all to the consequences of climate change that do not allow more than considering skiing as the main vocation of Nevegal. The innovation of the tourism sector, therefore, will have to transform Nevegal from an area of pure leisure to an integrated system of resources to be exploited with common and effective policies of environmental and landscape protection.

“At the moment we have not yet entered the figures that will serve to transform the contents of this agreement into reality,” explains the councilor of the Municipality of Belluno, Biagio Giannone, who is working on drawing up the plan. “Our municipalities are all cut off from the funds of the border municipalities and we believe it is important to bring those resources here too, in the mountain part that has less investment capacity”.Irene Aliprandi
