The delegates of the auto industries of Fiom meet in Turin and do so to tell about a difficult phase for a sector that has 160 thousand employees and they do it by sitting at the table together with Federmeccanica, with the national president Federico Visentin, and with the minister of Work Andrea Orlando. A new stage in the search for a unitary path that brings together not only the trade unions but also the world of work and that of industry around the world of cars.
Unitary action
Maurizio Landini, general secretary of the CGIL, speaks of a unified action to produce quality work and limit precarious work. “There is a need for places in which it is possible to have this discussion and for the various subjects, companies, workers and the government, to try together to think about the future and the choices to be made” underlines Landini. We need common action, adds the president of Federmeccanica to get out of the emergency “and tackle the issue of transition by putting in place concrete industrial policy tools, getting out of the emergency logic”.
The document
The key point is the unitary document signed by the trade unions and Federmeccanica to reiterate the need to safeguard employment. “Having signed a shared industrial policy document is an extraordinary step, it is a reaction to a choice that the EU has imposed on the sector starting from 2035” adds Visentin. We need an operational unit at the Presidency of the Council, is the proposal of Fiom, «that has transversal competences between the various ministries interested in the transformation of mobility that works on an extraordinary plan for the automotive sector. This is the path we want to share with Federmeccanica and with the other trade unions ”underlines Michele De Palma of the national secretariat of Fiom.
Visentin: “Now we need the government to listen to us”
«Now we need the Government to listen to us – reaffirms the president of Federmeccanica Visentin – and create an effective control room that knows how to work together with trade unions and companies, leaving the logic of reacting to the emergency. The theme, however, is not only the production volumes of cars but the transformation of components, working on the competitiveness factors of Italian companies “.
Flexibility, mobility, training and transition fund
On the table the request for policies to support the flexibility of work, the reduction of working hours and the mobility of workers, the refinancing of the Fund for new skills for training, and finally the transition fund as a non-emergency tool to manage the transition business and supply chain. And it is the same Minister of Labor Orlando who confirms the attention of the reform of the social safety nets with respect to the phenomena of transition. “We must ask Europe for more resources to manage the transition – underlines Orlando – to lighten the burden on the more industrialized countries, among other things”.
