Terni, “a normal man looks at a woman’s beautiful ass and tries”: controversy over sexist phrases by mayor Bandecchi
proposed by minorities on gender violence, councilor Cinzia Fabrizi (FdI) criticized the statements made by mayor Stefano Bandecchi last November, in which he claimed among other things that “he who has never cheated on his girlfriend is not normal”. He replied by stating that “all the male Italians understood me, at least the normal, sane ones. And all the normal females understood me. I claim all of them, one by one. A normal man looks at the beautiful ass of a “another woman and maybe she even tries. Then, if she succeeds, if she gets it too; if she doesn’t succeed, she takes it and goes home. Get offended as much as you like but she’s mine idea”. The political case erupts and his resignation is asked. “Send me to Elba like Napoleon”, he replies.
Sexist phrases, the clash in the city council in Terni
Storm, therefore, over the words of the mayor Stefano Bandecchi of Terni after his speech in the city council where the discussion was underway on an act proposed by minorities on gender violence. “It is true that Italy is full of imbeciles and therefore I understand that it is difficult for some to understand my words which I claim all of them, one by one”, he added.
“I have never killed any woman, I have not beaten any woman and I am not aware of having had any complaints from women”, Bandecchi then underlined. “If you want to do something about gender violence, fine – he added -. If not, Alternativa Popolare is free to choose what to vote for: I will vote against this amendment because you, whether from the right or the left, don’t have to teach me anything” .
At that point the tone was raised and the minorities left the council chamber, with the exponents of Alternativa Popolare, the mayor’s party, who defended Bandecchi, attacked the opposition and therefore approved the act on gender violence, but with the modifications established by the majority. Which also gave rise to the criticism of the minority wanting to mention only Giulia Cecchettin in the document to be voted on.
Upon leaving the opposition hall, “let the mice escape”, was Bandecchi’s reaction, who also spoke of “feminicides committed by four criminals… and obsessed”. “All the imbeciles who don’t understand what we said will be their problem, I advise everyone to emigrate”, his comment in announcing the continuation of the work on the act, with the necessary modifications, and the vote of Popular Alternative .
The League calls for the mayor’s resignation
After tensions over an act concerning gender violence, the League calls for the resignation of the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi. The local section of the Carroccio defines his attitude as “shameful” and speaks of “an unworthy show for the City Council chamber and for the institutional role held”.
“Once again – underlines the League in a statement – the mayor demonstrates total lack of respect towards institutions and women, expressing incoherent concepts which we strongly condemn and which should push him to resign immediately. It is not the first time that Bandecchi he indulges in behaviors that reveal a total lack of culture of respect for women, as has already happened recently during a television program and on many other occasions in which his words have gone beyond the limits of decency. Foul and vulgar language, provocations, offenses: all the mayor’s vocabulary has found vent in a city council now reduced to a tavern. An attitude that we can no longer tolerate and which we have reported several times to the prefect of Terni.”
“Bandecchi is not capable of acting as mayor of a city like Terni, not only due to the disappointing administrative results and the electoral promises that have fallen on deaf ears, but due to the perpetuation of attitudes that day after day are ridiculing him and his party and they shame the city of Terni which he is called to represent”, concludes the League.
M5S: Bandecchi has gone beyond all decency, he should resign
The mayor’s resignation is also requested by M5s. “What Bandecchi claims as normal in his statements is anything but normal. He raves about ‘sane’ men and women who have perfectly understood the meaning of his words, and about ‘imbeciles’ for whom it is a problem to understand it But do we realize how Bandecchi continually exceeds the bar of decency, first of all cultural, but also moral and institutional, with his outbursts? Bandecchi must resign.” Thus in a note the parliamentarians of the 5 Star Movement in the bicameral commission of inquiry into feminicide and gender violence Stefania Ascari, Anna Bilotti, Alessandra Maiorino and Daniela Morfino.
Pd: Bandecchi a mayor without discipline or honor
“Every day this Bandecchi seems to reach the bottom of arrogance, of violence that is not only verbal, of vulgarity, of the most vulgar chauvinism. And every day he exceeds every limit. A minimum of seriousness would lead him to leave the position to which he was elected and which he holds without discipline or honour. If, as is probable, he does not do so, it is evident that his stay, a daily insult to the city, to the civilizational traditions of Terni and Umbria, represents a constant insult to the institution. We continue to hope for an intervention from the prefectural authorities and the Ministry of the Interior”. Bandecchi’s reply: if you exile me I want Elba like Napoleon
“If you want to exile me, please send me to Elba? Because I would like to follow the same path as Napoleon”: thus, with a video on Instagram, the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi responded to the controversy linked to his words in the Council on violence of gender. “There was another Aventine”, he added, referring to the abandonment of the chamber by minorities. “So I wanted to ask – Bandecchi said – should I bring you tents and food? If you stay there for the next 12 years this is the democracy I like, everyone can go wherever they want”. “They go to the Aventine – said the mayor – and we do the things that need to be done. This way we will be able to move forward very well. The popular alternative will finally be able to conquer Italy without hypocrisy. The fact that you all walk with your eyes lowered, you have everything for well, everything is fine, but, dear gentlemen, you have to take this mayor like this. Let’s hope for the intervention of the government, the firefighters, the prefect… let’s throw Bandecchi out”.
