New increases in sight in the third quarter of the year for electricity and gas bills. According to Nomisma Energia estimates, the former should increase by 17% from 1 July and the latter by as much as 27%. «The prices of gas and electricity on the international markets have exploded after the decision of Russia on June 16 to cut off supplies to Germany and Italy. – explains the president Davide Tabarelli – Inevitably, a sharp rise in bills is expected, unlike what happened in April when they had marked a -10%. Now we are back on the growth trend ».
“This will be an important increase”, continues Tabarelli, and the first estimates, pending the decisions of the Arera, indicate a jump in the electricity bill of 17% to 48.5 cents per kWh which, for the typical family that consumes 2,700 kWh per year, implies a greater expense, on an annual basis, of 194.4 euros. The gas bill is more bitter, the rate of which should bounce by 27% to 1.57 euros per cubic meter, with a higher expenditure of the typical family, which consumes 1,400 cubic meters a year, of 462 euros on an annual basis. “The final decision rests with the Arera which certainly – adds Tabarelli – will try some intervention, with the help of the government, to limit the impact of the crisis on household energy expenditure”.
