Disposal of manure: the solution in the Marche

by admin

The solution of the disposal of manure, that is the manure of chickens (1.6 billion heads throughout Europe, ed.), Which produces 25 million tons / year of greenhouse gases and releases heavy metals into the ground, comes from patents and technology all Italian and a first trial, successfully tested as part of the Life Chimera project, with a total investment of over 2.2 million. The green answer was born in the Marche region, developed by two mechanical engineers, Michele Marcantoni and Rosalino Usci, at the head of 3P Engineering, an engineering company in the province of Ancona, which has already built two prototype plants in the Marche region, one in Osimo, in the Fileni plant, one of the largest Italian players in the production of meat, the other at the Fratelli Lorenzetti farm in Castelfidardo.

«Chimera drastically reduces the impact of greenhouse gas emissions with an innovative combustion technique for which we have registered two patents» explains Marcantoni. The economic advantages are also significant: “Breeders eliminate the costs of management, transport and disposal of a pollutant, the waste from the farm – explains Usci – thanks to the plant, manure is instead transformed into a product rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, thus becoming a natural fertilizer ». The chemical analyzes carried out confirm “the abatement of harmful substances in the Chimera approach, generating a virtuous circle consistent with the circular economy”.

There is a further advantage, measured by the School of Science and Technology team of the University of Camerino, led by Enrico Marcantoni: “Most of the models for disposal plants are quite expensive and require a high degree of maintenance, unlike the type of filter used for Chimera, a more efficient and economical solution, and above all more ecological ».

The next challenge is to test Chimera in the Netherlands, in Noord-Brabant, at Renders & Renders, a large poultry farm and partner of the Life project. An even more demanding test case than the experimentation in Italy: the Netherlands is the largest meat exporter in the European Union and, due to intensive farming, exceeds the levels for nitrogen oxide emissions. Chimera will work in a continuous cycle for a year, with the aim of disposing of about 1,500 tons of droppings, producing 260 tons of fertilizer, as well as thermal and electrical energy. The interest in the Marche project also goes beyond the European borders: entrepreneurs from other countries, from South America to Africa, owners of intensive chicken farms interested in the management of this waste by-product, have turned to 3P Engineering, with a view to economics. sustainable.
