The electric Mercedes G-Class is a reality. After seeing it as a concept and disguised, the Mercedes G 580 chooses the 2024 edition of the Beijing Motor Show to present itself to the general public. As with the traditional version, it promises to be a true off-roader in all respects starting from the supporting frame and a package designed for the most demanding passages when you put the wheels off the asphalt. Driven by four individually controlled motors positioned close to the wheels, the electric Mercedes G-Class claims a power of 432 kW (587 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 1,164 Nm capable of ensuring acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

Mercedes G-Class electric autonomy

The battery is one of the key elements of the electric Mercedes G-Class. Credited with a usable power of 116 kWh, the two-layer lithium-ion battery with 216 cells is installed in twelve cell modules between three cooling levels. Thanks to the integration into the ladder frame made of up to four millimeters thick steel, it ensures a low center of gravity and makes the entire vehicle much more rigid. To honor the tradition of the G-Class, designed to tackle the roughest routes, the battery is housed in a torsion-resistant casing. Equipped with a range of 473 km with WLTP approval, the electric Mercedes G-Class recharges at up to 11 kW in alternating current and 200 kW in direct current.

New electric Mercedes G-Class, turns on itself

In addition to the fully electric engine, the Mercedes G 580 debuts a long list of technologies designed for off-road. With G-Turn, for example, the electric G-Class turns almost on the spot. In fact, the vehicle performs up to two complete turns in the desired direction on unpaved or loose surfaces. The four independently driven wheels can turn the vehicle left or right, as needed. To do this, the wheels on the right and left side of the vehicle turn in opposite directions. G-Steering, on the other hand, can significantly reduce the radius when driving off-road or on surfaces that are not perfectly level. This is achieved by targeted control of the drive torque at the individual drive wheels, with the vehicle turning around the inside rear wheel. Furthermore, it reproduces virtual differential locks through torque vectoring. The “G-Roar” sound experience also arrives, capable of combining various dedicated sounds with the electric G-Class. On board the traditional G-Class style dashboard with Mbux infotainment system with 12.3-inch touch screen. Prices? In Germany, the G 580 with EQ Technology will be available starting from over 142,500 euros and from 192,500 for the Edition One.
