Google Chrome update summary: speed improvements, color design and music control usher in improvements-Google Chrome Google browser

When you open multiple tabs in Google Chrome, it is easy to accidentally close the tabs while browsing multiple tabs. To help users restore tabs, the Chrome browser is equipped with a “reopen closed tabs” button. The developer has now confirmed that this feature will become faster later this year.

This is part of Google’s efforts to improve the browser’s built-in caching system. As we recently reported, Google has been researching “backward caching” to improve overall browsing performance by keeping the page alive after you have browsed it. If you try to open a closed tab again, it will load almost immediately because of the cache.

Backward caching debuted in Chrome 87 of the Android system, and it is slowly being promoted to users in the stable channel of the desktop client. Using the technology behind backward caching, Google is now developing a new feature called “Turn off tag caching”.

This will allow you to reopen closed tabs almost immediately, because the entire page is completely stored in memory, except for some JavaScript elements like ads. In a Chromium Gerrit article, Google confirmed that they have added a Chrome logo to “ClosedTabCache” to help developers and users test the feature.

“Add a chrome://flag to ClosedTabCache. This patch adds a flag to enable closed tab caching on the desktop, making it easier to test,” Google noted.

Currently, if you close a tab and reopen it using the “Reopen closed tabs” option, the page will be reloaded. Google Chrome is planning to make closed tab buttons almost instantaneous through caching support. As part of the update, the Chrome browser will freeze the content assets of the page and store them in memory within a short period of time.

On the other hand, when you use Chrome’s back and forward buttons, Chrome’s “BackForwardCache” will load the page instantly.

Design improvements in Google Chrome

Google is also working on a new modern design for the Chrome browser.

As part of the design update, Chrome will get various UI changes. The redesigned settings page looks familiar, but there are also many obvious changes. For example, Google has replaced the Material Blue color that has been in use for a long time with an appropriate dark or pure white background.

Chrome bookmarks ushered in a new user interface, rounded corners and Chrome icons are now in the front and middle of the settings page.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the design changes are more obvious in the lighting mode, in which the Material Blue is replaced with white. In general, the old and new user interfaces look basically the same, and only when you carefully compare the two versions can you notice some differences.

Media playback control

Chrome received new media playback controls last year, and it is slowly gaining new features and improvements. In the latest Chrome Canary version, Google has added a mute button to the global media playback controls.

This will enable you to mute the audio from any tab in your browser.

Google is also testing a hidden modern media control interface, which will be released to everyone later this year.
