Greener ships, Sace adheres to the Poseidon Principles

by admin

The shipping industry, mainly ships, are also at the center of the ecological transition. There is talk of liquefied natural gas, decarbonisation, in short, the reduction of emissions and more.

Poseidon Principles

In this regard, I would like to point out Sace’s adhesion to the Poseidon Principles, which is added to the adoption of the Climate Change Policy, which sees the company of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. We are talking about support for business activities in Italy and abroad for the reduction of climate-altering emissions: see for example the issue of green guarantees with resources already mobilized for over 1.4 billion euros.

In the case of the Poseidon Principles, Sace undertakes to monitor on an annual basis the greenhouse gas emissions of its portfolio in the naval sector, particularly relevant in the export sector, in order to verify compliance with the decarbonisation objectives established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO ), including a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 compared to 2008 levels of ships over 5,000 tons. Subsequently, it will publish, together with the other participating institutions, the data relating to climate alignment in order to promote transparency and accountability in the sector.

“Adherence to the framework of the Poseidon Principles – says the CEO of Sace, Pierfrancesco Latinia – also applied to a strategic sector for the Italian economy such as shipbuilding, demonstrates how business and sustainability are now issues that cannot be treated separately “.
