A new chapter opens in the controversy, this time editorial, which pits Marina and Giuseppe Caprotti, respectively the third and first born of Bernardo, the founder of Esselunga. On February 13th the third edition of «Scythe and trolley» arrives in bookstores with the subtitle that eloquently reads: «In memory of a man who can no longer defend himself». There are three new chapters and the first «Letter to Dad» promises to be more interesting: Marina wrote it with the intention of “answering” and defending her father’s memory from what her brother narrated in «The Goats’ Bones». The preface is written by Liliana Segre to whom Bernardo had provided staunch support in realizing the Shoah Memorial project in Milan while the introduction is signed by the journalist and writer Stefano Lorenzetto.

«Scythe and trolley – Hands on the spending of Italians» is the autobiographical book written by Bernardo Caprotti narrating the history of the brand that he helped to found and to remember the many contrasts with the system of red cooperatives and the network of political supports that for decades they have held back the development of Esselunga in Central-Northern Italy. This approach meant that the contents of the book were at the center of over ten civil lawsuits initiated by Coop Italia and two subsidiaries: Coop Liguria and Estense.

«The bones of the Goats» is instead the story of this Lombard industrial dynasty which is intertwined with the life of the firstborn Giuseppe. First the events and relationships between father and son that led to the author’s entry into the family business in 1986 according to the consolidated “starting from the bottom” model in various offices up to the experience in the States at Dominick’s, in Chicago, sign of the large-scale retail trade where he worked for a year as a worker and a year in the purchasing and marketing offices. Upon returning to Italy he brought the experiences gained and the innovations seen in the USA to Esselunga and in 2002 he became CEO of the company. In 2004 his father removed him from the company. During the presentation of «The bones of the Goats» Giuseppe underlined that in the book he did not want to talk about the relationship with his father but about the facts, the events that affected him from a professional and personal point of view, placing a point on the past.
