The “White Paper” pointed out that my country has become the world‘s largest lithium-ion battery consumer market for five consecutive years. In 2021, the global lithium-ion battery market will reach 545GWh, of which China’s lithium-ion battery market will be about 324GWh, accounting for about 59.4% of the global market.

According to the “White Paper”, since the fourth quarter of 2017, the overall development index of China’s lithium battery industry has shown a steady upward trend. At the same time, the global battery production capacity mainly comes from companies in China, Japan and South Korea. In the past two years, driven by the new energy vehicle market in Europe and the United States, the production capacity has accelerated to the field of vehicle manufacturing. By the end of 2021, China’s power battery production capacity will account for about 70% of the world.

In terms of investment amount, lithium battery investment experienced a short downturn in 2019. Driven by the downstream market after the new crown pneumonia epidemic, industry investment gradually entered an outbreak period; from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2020, the investment in the lithium battery industry continued to rise. From the perspective of the total market value of enterprises, since the fourth quarter of 2017, the market value of listed companies in the lithium battery industry chain has increased significantly, with an increase of as much as three times, indicating that the overall operation of the industry companies is in good condition, and investors are more optimistic about the overall evaluation of the lithium battery industry. From the perspective of the number of listed companies, the number of listed companies has increased slightly, the industry is becoming more mature, and the competition pattern is relatively stable.
In addition, during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, new energy vehicles entered the stage of marketization. The “White Paper” believes that from the perspective of supply, the global automobile carbon emission management standards have become stricter, forcing traditional automobiles to accelerate their electrification transformation, while emerging automobile companies have greatly improved their product delivery capabilities and market channels. From the market perspective, advances in battery technology have boosted the endurance and charging speed of new energy vehicle products.
The “White Paper” also pointed out that the production capacity of upstream lithium iron phosphate, precursors, lithium hexafluorophosphate and other material-level products is in short supply, resulting in a serious shortage of battery core materials, and the phenomenon of large-amount lock-ups frequently occurs; lithium battery industry chain enterprises have begun to expand production, and In recent years, the investment in the lithium battery industry has been concentrated in the southwest region, especially in Sichuan Province, which will be the province with the highest investment in the lithium battery industry chain in 2021; Chinese lithium battery companies have accelerated the pace of global layout and actively entered the overseas lithium ore market; with the gradual entry of large-scale power batteries “Retirement period”, the lithium battery recycling outlet has come.
