The new school contract comes into force. It will be in force from today and, in addition to a series of regulatory changes such as the introduction of agile working and three days of paid leave for temporary workers, for example, it will introduce increases in the pay slip. The monthly salary increase will be 124 euros for teachers, 96 euros for technical-administrative staff (ATA) and 190 euros for the Directors of general and administrative services. The change affects 1,232,248 employees, of which 1,154,993 belong to the school and Afam sectors (including 850 thousand teachers), and 77,255 workers in the university and research institute sectors (excluding professors). The green light arrived more than a year after the start of negotiations.
The novelty also comes after a multi-stage process: after the 101 euro average increase obtained last year by the 850 thousand teachers when the first economic sequence of the contract was signed, the remaining part (just over 20 euro) is now added for reach the overall increase of 124 euros brought to the finish line by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara.
This result, which was also achieved thanks to the additional allocation of 300 million euros obtained from Minister Giuseppe Valditara, allows school staff to receive significant monthly salary increases. Further progress is expected. «It is a concrete step in a policy of valorisation of school staff, which we strongly want and which will be further increased thanks to the recent allocation in the 2024 budget law of important resources to be allocated to the renewal of the 2022/2024 school collective bargaining agreement» declared yesterday the Minister Valditara on the occasion of the signing of the national contract in its definitive version.
The comment of the president of Aran, Antonio Naddeo, is in the same direction: «Our objective – he underlined – is to continue on this reform path with the new contract for the period 2022-2024. The Agency is already working to ensure that the next stages of the negotiation process continue to deliver significant and concrete improvements for all workers in the sector. This contract is a tangible sign of the government’s commitment to a stronger education and research system, an engine for growth and innovation in Italy.”
A commitment has also been made on the funding front: in the 2024 Budget, a total of 8 billion euros are allocated for the new collective bargaining agreements. Between 2 and 3 billion would go to schools.
