“Two wheels undoubtedly represent a symbol of post-Covid mobility” so the president of Confindustria Ancma commented on the registration data of mopeds, scooters and motorcycles for the month of May, the period in which they were placed on the market as a whole (mopeds + registered) 38,553 vehicles (+ 42.73%). The moped market alone totaled 1,940 vehicles sold, equal to + 45.21% on the same month of 2020, while scooters and motorcycles recorded respectively 20,526 (+ 41.41%) and 16,087 (+ 44.15%) vehicles registered. From the comparison with the same month of 2019, an overall growth of 26.6% emerges. Equita analysts who have a Hold rating on Piaggio with a target price of 3.5 euros, underline that “May is, together with June, the peak month for two-wheeler sales in Italy and weighs on average 13% of total annual sales . The Italian two-wheeler market accounts for around 11% of Piaggio’s turnover.
As for the Spanish two-wheeler market, Anesdor published the data for May which was still weak compared to pre-covid levels, recording an overall decrease in volumes sold by 12% compared to May 2019. As for Italy , the comparison with 2020 (total volumes + 56% on an annual basis) benefits from a May 2020 figure still impacted by the lockdown. According to Equita’s estimates, “the Spanish market has a mid-single digit weight on Piaggio’s turnover”.
