From 2 August La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno will no longer be on newsstands. The company Ledi srl has not accepted the extension of a further month – until 31 August – of the lease of the business unit granted by the bankruptcy trustee of Edisud spa, publisher of the newspaper in provisional operation since December 2020. The contract will terminate its own effective tomorrow and the company has communicated its willingness to extend beyond the lease of the company. The newspaper will be included in the exclusive availability of Edisud and with it the 144 employees, including journalists and polygraphers, “automatically demoted”, reads the communication to the workers.
Ledi srl of the Ladisa group has communicated its unwillingness to extend the company lease beyond the six months foreseen, because – it is learned – it complains to the bankruptcy court and to the trustees for having followed too long a timeframe for the definitive assignment of the title, owned of the Mediterranean company, also in bankruptcy proceedings. Consequently, the newspaper will fall within the exclusive availability of Edisud’s bankruptcy trustee and with it all employment relationships: 144 between journalists and polygraphers will be “automatically demoted – reads the communication sent to the workers -, without interruption, with effect from the first August, to the Edisud company in bankruptcy “.
It will now be necessary to wait for the voting procedures to be concluded on the concordat plans for Mediterranea presented by the companies Ledi srl and Ecologica spa, after which they will be able to resume the publications with the new publisher. In the meantime, all workers will be put on layoffs at zero hours, who announce a meeting for tomorrow.
