There is a traditional way of coming to the table to negotiate a renewal and it revolves around salary increases. But there is also a new way, more creative if we want, whose drivers are welfare, productivity and work organization. It may be because its business has always had to do with creativity or perhaps because, for a year now, it has taken the path of innovation (technological and not only) with conviction, that Siae took home one of the contracts in December most innovative category among the most recently signed.

An unprecedented union unity

The audience affected by the collective bargaining agreement which came into force this year is that of the 1,007 workers of the Authors and Publishers Society, the duration is two years and the trade union unit that produced it – Slc Cgil, Fistel Cisl, Uilpa Uil, Fnc Ugl, Comunicazione , Cisal Fial and Confsal – an unpublished. «We looked at each other», says Giacomo Strazza, chief human resources officer of Siae, «and we said that, consistently with the new phase that the Company has entered with the president Salvo Nastasi and the general director Matteo Fedeli, we had to innovate work too.”

The short week experimentation

It is obvious to begin with the short week, for which a discussion table with the social partners has been started. Two hypotheses are being studied: the first linked to seasonality (in the tourist resorts, for example, in the high season we would work without interruption, while in the low season we could think of compensating by shortening the week), the second could focus on four days of work, bringing the working day to 9 hours.

The organization of work is, immediately, a pillar of the new agreement: previously there was a 36-hour week structure, plus short and long days. Now the company has moved to 7.12 hours a day plus breaks, so as to ensure that there is always someone at the office until 4pm. A novelty that also brings with it meal vouchers: before they existed, but very few people benefited from them, because to earn them you had to work at least 8 hours a day. Now their amount drops from 9 euros to 6.50 but they are extended to everyone. «We also need to talk about smart working», adds Strazza.

Giacomo Strazza, chief human resources officer of Siae

«Before we had teleworking: it was quiet, for example. Now we work by objectives: you have a contact range that from Monday to Thursday goes from 10am to 1pm and from 2.30pm to 4pm. Your working day develops over the 8am-8pm time slot but you organize yourself as you want”.
