Stellantis: Maserati moves to Mirafiori, while the bodywork remains in Grugliasco

by admin

The announcement comes during the meeting organized at Mise with the Government and the trade unions: Stellantis reorganizes the Turin production center, the assembly of the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte will be transferred from Grugliasco to Mirafiori and work will remain on the site near Turin. of bodywork, until 2024. The hypothesis had emerged before the summer, then the official decision arrived, which arises from two kinds of reasons: on the one hand the push towards rationalization of costs given by Carlos Tavares, on the other the volumes of Maserati that do not saturate the Grugliasco site.

The new full electric platform for Maserati in Mirafiori will be called Folgore. The meeting is attended by the ministers of economic development Giancarlo Giorgetti, the deputy minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and the head of Labor Andrea Orlando, while for Stellantis there is Davide Mele, contact person for the entire Europe area, with the representatives of the metalworkers for the confederal trade unions.

Mirafiori, therefore, where the Group has invested two billion euros in recent years, and where Stellantis produces the full electric Fiat 500s, becomes a reference point for the Maserati range that awaits the launch of the electric versions of the Gran Cabrio and Gran Turismo. Over 54,000 cars have been produced in Turin since the beginning of the year, 78% of which was 500 bev, the flagship model of the Group’s electrification strategy.

The decision on Grugliasco follows the announcement of the reorganization of Melfi, the first plant to which one of the Group’s new production platforms for electric and hybrid models has been assigned, and the decision to build in Termoli, currently focused on the production of endothermic engines, the gigafactory that will be installed in Italy.

From a formal point of view, the two factories were unified years ago – with the name «Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Plant» – and have a total of 3,900 employees. The Turin hub, thanks to the increase in production of the electric Fiat 500, is the only Italian plant, together with Modena, which is likely to be able to close production with higher volumes than in 2020, the black year of Covid.
