Uncertainty about the direction to take for the European indices in the early stages of trading, while the countdown for the central bank meetings. While Piazza Affari is enjoying the highs of the last 13 years, Wall Street is stalling waiting for the crucial data on inflation in May which will be published on Thursday 10 June. On the same day, the Governing Council of the European Central Bank meets from which investors expect important news on the monetary policy front. Will there be rate announcements? Or on the Pepp plan, the current expansionary program that allows the ECB to theoretically buy more BTp than Bund should it be needed to alleviate the pandemic discomforts? Next week it will be the turn of the Fed: both institutions will have to take note of an increasingly robust economic growth (even beyond expectations) but also of constantly overheating prices.
At Piazza Affari, eyes on Atlantia: Moody’s has led to a positive outlook on the rating in view of the sale of Aspi, which will be ratified by the board of directors on Thursday. I will also look forward to A2a, ready for a maxi joint venture with Ardian on electricity generation small-cap. According to many analysts, they could be affected by the short-term positive climate on European stock exchanges. Given that many companies are lagging behind in the recovery of pre-Covid prices, some, through a stock-picking policy, could benefit from the momentum.

Tokyo in red, weighs the decline in semiconductors
Weak closing for the Tokyo Stock Exchange with the Nikkei stock index changing course during the session conditioned by the decline of some big stocks such as semiconductors which offset the gains of drug manufacturers after Eisai’s Alzheimer’s drug received US recognition. At the end of trading, the Nikkei index of leading stocks lost 0.19% to 28,963 points while the broader Topix is up 0.14% to 1,963.50 points. Investors remain predominantly cautious, analysts explain, ahead of the US inflation report this week and ECB and Fed meetings next week.
