On Friday evening, HÕFF head Helmut Jänes and Haapsalu mayor Urmas Sukles opened the 19th horror film festival.

On this occasion, at the opening, both men were in doctor’s robes, and Sukles operated on the patient’s intestines, which Jänes cut open. With this, this year’s HÕFF was open.

This year’s HÕFF Lifetime Achievement Award, which is awarded with a Haapsalu scarf, was awarded to Prince Peeter Volkonski for writing the music for the TV play “How did the moon turn to the moon”. When Jänes asked how Volkonsky reacted to the news that he had received the reward, the prince replied: “It was terrible.” This answer suited the Rabbit.

In honor of Volkonski, at the opening of HÕFF, young people from the Läänemaa joint high school also performed with songs from the musical “How the king tended to be famous” based on the material of the TV play.

At the end of the last song, the young people went in front of Volkonski, who was sitting in the front row of the hall of the cultural center, and honored him. Then Volkonsky stood up and returned the honor to the youth.

Even before the opening film of the festival “Chainsaws sang”, the host of the evening, Mart Sander, organized an auction where he sold the chainsaw used in the film at a starting price of 10 euros. It was sold for 500 euros. The big auction will take place on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., where props from various films will be sold. The proceeds will be donated to support Ukraine through the Rescue League.

Traditionally, people arrived at the opening of the festival in costume. They were greeted on the red carpet by Frankenstein’s monster.
