The reason for introducing such complex restrictions is mainly due to a major privacy issue that was exposed last year. As early as March 2020, many iPhone/iPad apps are “spying” on users’ clipboard data.
In other words, software developers can access any content on the clipboard without the user’s knowledge. The apps that have been drawn into the whirlpool of public opinion include popular apps such as TikTok, Hotels.com, Reddit, and Zillow.
Considering that users sometimes copy sensitive information such as passwords, restricting App’s clipboard access is also on the agenda. Apple took the lead in giving a clipboard access prompt (horizontal bubble notification) in iOS 14, and iOS 15 took it a step further.
After enabling Secure Paste, App developers will not be able to “completely” see the contents of the clipboard-unless you choose to copy some content from another App and paste it into the App currently in use.
In this process, developers cannot directly touch the copied content until the user allows it to be pasted into the current App, so that the majority of iPhone / iPad users feel more at ease.
