After the state of agitation the strike. The mobilization of the trade unions and Liquigas workers, as announced at the end of July, resulted in a day off from work. The story begins when the company communicates the need to start a restructuring and rationalization process. The process started, however, is interrupted with the consequent rupture of trade union relations starting from 29 July: the trade union organizations (Filctem, Femca and Uiltec) issue a note announcing the interruption of industrial relations and the proclamation of the strike.
Recovery of efficiency and productivity
“Starting from 2020 and throughout 2021, we worked to find solutions on the recovery of efficiency and productivity – they reconstruct in the note – by signing an agreement that, with enormous sacrifices on the part of workers, has allowed a reorganization plan with a cut of jobs of work”. According to the trade unions, the agreements would have been disregarded. Among these also the decision to decommission a site. «We believe it is wrong – the three acronyms continue – and counterproductive is the decision to leave the south of the country by selling the Montalto warehouse and confirming our skepticism regarding the entrepreneurial choices made by Liquigas in recent years. We cannot accept that the company will proceed with communications to workers regarding imminent and unjustified transfers. We have repeatedly proposed alternative solutions but, also in this case, the arrogance and disrespectful attitude of our interlocutor prevailed ».

The trade unions then communicate the interruption of relations and the strike. A letter addressed to colleagues and colleagues from the CEO Andrea Arzà on 30 August. “In recent months the company had communicated to the trade unions the need to improve the efficiency of the processes – reads the letter addressed to colleagues – and benefit from the improvements produced by the heavy investments (over 20 million euros) in the IT platform, in the interconnection and communication systems and work tools available to corporate functions “. As for the Montalto site, the managing director, in the letter, states: «A further element of manifest dissent is a consequence of the decision to outsource the activities of the Montalto Uffugo plant. It should be enough to remember that previous company outsourcing initiatives did not jeopardize jobs but, on the contrary, contributed to the relative sustainability over time: outsourced activities are still permanently part of our organization after years “.

At the end of the two pages of communication, the chief executive officer remarked that «the management of liquigas will continue to guarantee fairness of treatment based on an independent and socially responsible assessment». Not only. “Although it does not agree with the reasons, in the context of the legitimacy of the declaration of strike scheduled for September 3 – it continues – the company protects its membership as well as the free choice not to join it”. During the day, a note from Liquigas arrived which «expresses amazement at the contents and reasons for the event planned today by the trade unions». An event that for the company “appears to be entirely instrumental and completely unrelated to the outcome of the long negotiation that began in 2019 and ended with the agreement signed by all parties on 30 April 2021 and subsequently amended on 7 June”. The company then continues: “If the trade unions decide to abandon the current attitude and the various initiatives undertaken, in order to resume a constructive dialogue with the company, the management of Liquigas reiterates its – never interrupted – maximum willingness to dialogue with the parties involved “. From the unions, on the day of the strike, there is also an opening.
“The company counterpart – says Francesco Garau, secretary of Filctem Sardegna – demonstrates its position at the negotiating table and discusses it on that, maintaining, if possible, the commitments it assumes”.
