- After days of negotiations behind closed doors, the Audit Committee of the Council of States (GPK-S) recommended a parliamentary commission of inquiry (PUK).
- Next is the so-called office of the Council of States, probably on Wednesday. It must also formally vote for a PUK, after which the business can go to the two councils.
- In March, the office of the National Council unanimously voted in favor of proposing the establishment of a PUK to Parliament.
According to the Zug FDP Council of States Matthias Michel, the President of the GPK-S, the decision for a PUK was made by a large majority. It was agreed that an in-depth investigation was needed. There were also votes for an investigation by the business audit committee. According to Michel, however, the vast majority found that a PUK was the right way, given the extraordinary dimensions of the incidents.

It can be assumed that the office of the Council of States – with vote counters, president and vice-presidents of the Council of States – will adhere to the recommendation of the GPK-S. This will probably decide on Wednesday. “The fact that the office of the Council of States waited until we form our opinion shows that the office of the Council of States attaches great importance to our opinion,” says Michel. A “weighty preliminary decision” was made today.
If this votes in favor of the appointment of a PUK, the office of the National Council will then draw up a draft dismissal that defines the task and budget of the PUK. This then goes to the National Council in the summer session at the earliest, and later to the Council of States. Both councils must agree to the establishment of a PUK.
