The State Council recently issued an “Action Plan for Promoting Large-Scale Equipment Renewal and Trade-in of Consumer Goods,” aiming to enhance the quality of durable consumer goods in residents’ lives through equipment renewal, trade-ins, recycling, and standard improvements. The Plan focuses on updating equipment in key industries, transportation, education, and municipal infrastructure, with a shift towards green, high-end, smart, and safe products.

One successful example of equipment renewal is Shandong Uni-President Ceramics Technology Co., Ltd.’s kiln digital workshop upgrade project, which reduced energy consumption and improved production efficiency. Jiangsu Shagang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. also implemented an ultra-thin strip production line to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions significantly.

To motivate consumers to trade in old products for new ones, the Plan includes various policy arrangements, such as fiscal support, tax policies, and financial incentives. Many regions have introduced relevant policies to support equipment renewal and consumer goods trade-ins, including subsidies and discounts for trade-ins.

After exchanging old items for new ones, the Plan emphasizes recycling actions to promote resource utilization and a circular economy. Establishing a comprehensive recycling system for old household appliances and other items can bring economic benefits and reduce carbon emissions.

Online platforms like JD.com and Xianyu are enhancing the trade-in process by providing services to install new appliances and remove old ones. This makes it more convenient for consumers to participate in the trade-in program and promotes second-hand consumption as a natural green economy.

Overall, the “Action Plan for Promoting Large-Scale Equipment Renewal and Trade-in of Consumer Goods” aims to enhance residents’ quality of life, stimulate effective investment, and promote technological progress through equipment renewal and consumer goods trade-ins. It also highlights the importance of recycling actions to support a sustainable and circular economy.
