Turbulence in shadow banks would hit large institutions particularly hard

According to the study, around 80 percent of all repo loans taken out by financial institutions from shadow banks in the euro area are concentrated in 13 large financial institutions. “These banks play a central role in the market as they are practically the only recipients of repo liquidity from mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds and money market funds,” the ECB experts write.
