USA: PCE, the Fed’s key measure of inflation rose 2.8% in March

Inflation showed little sign of slowing in March, with the PCE index a key barometer Federal Reservand watch carefully and that shows that pricing pressures remain high.

The price index of personal consumption expenditures, excluding food and energy, rose 2.8% in March from a year ago, the same as in February, the Commerce Department said Friday. This was higher than the 2.7% Dow Jones consensus estimate.

Including food and energy, the all-item PCE price indicator increased 2.7%, compared to the estimate of 2.6%.

On a monthly basis, both measures increased 0.3%, as expected.
