ROME (ITALPRESS) – A true “war bulletin” after a year of pandemic that has reduced one of the most dynamic and active sectors of the Italian economy, that of public businesses, to rubble. This is the picture outlined by the Fipe-Confcommercio 2020 Catering Report. According to the data, employment in Italy is collapsing as a result of the pandemic: mainly housing and catering have been penalized, which have lost 514 thousand jobs, more than double the 245 thousand created between 2013 and 2019. 97.5% of entrepreneurs registered in during 2020 a decline in the turnover of their company. The reasons behind the reduction in revenues – according to the Report – are mainly to be found in the drop in demand due to restrictive measures, both on activities and on mobility and people (88.8%), in the reduction of capacity inside of premises for the implementation of safety protocols (35.4%) and in the decrease in tourist flows (31.1%), especially foreign ones. Consumption of Italians is changing, we eat more at home, compulsorily, but the balance is in deficit. Food spending at home increases by € 6 billion, but that in bars and restaurants collapses by € 31 billion. A fact that certifies how Italians have spent less especially for higher quality agri-food products, commonly consumed more in restaurants.
