MILAN – The Chinese giant BYD, after becoming the world‘s leading manufacturer of electric cars, overtaking Tesla, launches itself into the world of two wheels, obviously battery-powered. BYD has in fact signed a partnership with the startup Scorpio, which has just moved from Singapore to Shenzen in China, home to the headquarters of the four-wheel giant and which has the aim of launching X1 by this summer, its first electric scooter which , according to what was declared by the company, weighs 185 kg, goes from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.8 seconds, goes up to a maximum speed of 105 km/h, thanks to 10kW of power and has a range of 200 km .

Scorpio CEO Joshua Goh told Nikkei Asia: “Having a technology partner like BYD will help us reduce costs and make our business model much more scalable.” And on the other hand, the Chinese giant is making a contribution to a sector, that of electric two-wheelers, with great growth potential, especially, for the moment, in Asia.
