Alibaba Entertainment Injects HK$5 Billion into Hong Kong Arts Revitalization Plan

Alibaba Entertainment made a significant announcement on the opening day of the 2024 Hong Kong International Film and Television Exhibition by unveiling the “Hong Kong Arts Revitalization Plan”. With a commitment to investing no less than HK$5 billion over the next five years, the plan focuses on four major areas: Hong Kong dramas, movies, performances, and young talent training.

Fan Luyuan, chairman and CEO of Alibaba Entertainment, emphasized the historical mission of promoting both local and global cultural and entertainment industries for Hong Kong and the mainland. He expressed his aspiration to collaborate closely with Hong Kong’s cultural and entertainment sector to showcase the “Hong Kong style” globally and help Hong Kong stars shine on the international stage.

The unveiling of the plan was witnessed by various dignitaries, including representatives from the Hong Kong Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, and the Shanghai Municipal Radio, Film and Television Bureau. Co-sponsored by leading industry players such as Anle Films, Media Asia Media Group, and TVB, the plan aims to revitalize and promote the arts industry in Hong Kong.

At the press conference, Youku, a subsidiary of Alibaba Entertainment, announced several blockbuster drama series and collaborations with prominent Hong Kong film and television production companies. The lineup included highly anticipated sequels and new projects that aim to enrich the content offerings for audiences.

Stakeholders from the Hong Kong government and industry expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting the potential for deeper cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong’s cultural and entertainment sectors. They underscored the significance of such collaborations in enhancing the vitality and international competitiveness of both regions’ audio-visual industries.

This focus on talent development underscores the importance of grooming the next generation of stars and filmmakers to sustain the industry’s growth and success.

By leveraging the strengths and resources of both Hong Kong and mainland China, Alibaba Entertainment is poised to create new opportunities and elevate the profile of Hong Kong’s cultural and entertainment landscape.
