The National Women’s Futsal Championship kicked off with a thrilling match between two powerhouse teams from Shanxi. The Pingluo Hengli team and Shanxi Medical University team put on an exciting display of skill and determination in the opening game of the tournament, as reported by Ningxia News Network.
The championship, which started on March 12 in Pingluo, Ningxia, saw a total of 12 teams and over 200 athletes competing for the title. The competition features a group round-robin and cross-qualifying system, with Shanxi Datong University Excellence Star Team eyeing to improve on their third-place finish from the previous year.
Following the group draw, Shanxi Datong University Excellence Star Team was placed in Group B alongside Fujian Team, Yunnan Normal University Team, and Guangdong Team. Meanwhile, Shanxi Medical University is in Group C along with Shanghai Tongji University, Hangzhou, and the host Ningxia.
In their first group stage match, Shanxi Datong University Excellence Stars faced off against Yunnan Normal University. The game ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw in regular time, with Yunnan Normal University eventually prevailing 5-4 in the penalty shootout despite Shanxi Datong University holding a two-goal lead.
Assistant coach Chu Nan of Shanxi Datong University Excellence Star Team reflected on the match, acknowledging the challenges of forming a new team this season. He expressed hope that the players will continue to work hard, gain confidence, and strive for better results in the upcoming games.
