Giulia Briatico was awarded the first scholarship and work conceived by the Accademia del Profumo in memory of Giorgia Martone, an entrepreneur in the olfactory world, dedicated to young people oriented and motivated to undertake an academic and professional path in the perfumery sector.
“It is an honor for me to receive this recognition as a concrete opportunity to experience what I have learned up to now from books and advanced courses – comments the winner, master’s degree in pharmaceutical chemistry and technology at the University of Milan -. I thank Accademia del Profumo immensely for believing in me, giving me the opportunity to start my biggest dream. I have always followed that echo which, after all these years, still precedes my steps. I am referring to perfume, which for me is the maximum expression of freedom, creativity and a silent verbal bouquet. I embarked on a university path that allowed me to have the right chemical skills, a critical and scientific method of analysis, based on observations and results. My experimental thesis is a project aimed at elaborating a synthesis between formula and packaging, responding from various points of view to the needs of customers, in chemical-physical and mechanical terms ».
The prize, of 10 thousand euros, is made up of a study and work path of about six months. The first stage, Professione Olfatto – the only qualification program in the olfactory field in Italy, conceived by the company Mouillettes & Co – consists of a theoretical introduction thanks to an olfactory specialization course, lasting two weeks, to acquire the fundamental notions of base, to develop a culture of perfume and build the appropriate knowledge in the olfactory field; then follows the internship period in various realities of the perfumery supply chain: an essence house, a product development and marketing company and a production site for raw materials.
Giulia Briatico will begin her training course in September 2022. The choice of the winner, after a preselection phase entrusted to a technical committee, was made by the technical jury, chaired by the president of the Accademia del Profumo and made up of representatives from the industrial and academic world. : out of a shortlist of 32 nominations, the seven finalists were met in individual interviews to decide on the winner. The applications received were of great value, so much so that the technical jury suggested rewarding the other six young talents with the dual possibility of an orientation interview with an employment agency and with the opportunity to be presented to potentially interested cosmetic companies. to offer job opportunities or internships in their realities.
