Bmw, here are all the vehicles of the future for the city

MILAN – Distinguishing features: zero emissions. Recent studies developed by BMW around the world take into consideration unconventional forms of mobility to be combined with cars, which for their part will remain the core business even in the electrified future. In the context of megacities and their specific mobility problems, it is the moment of technique and creativity to identify practical and efficient answers, even by overcoming or developing in an original way the alternative means we know.

We start with the Clever Commute which goes beyond the concept of the traditional electric scooter in favor of a more practical and easy to carry tool; the structure can be folded in order to reduce the overall dimensions and allow it to be placed longitudinally in the trunk of a 3 Series or transversely in that of a Mini. Clever Commute has a range of 20 km and the removable batteries can be recharged at home.

Going up in load capacity and in the number of wheels, here is the Dynamic Cargo tricycle, conceived as a pickup bicycle capable of combining the agility and fun of the former and the transport needs of the latter. The structure is in two parts, hinged in the center so that the front can lean when cornering (like a normal bike) while the rear remains horizontal and adheres to the road. The “loading” section is modular and can be adapted to carry things such as comfortably and safely accommodating a child.

Even in the workplace, travel can be simplified thanks to the Personal Mover Concept platform; a kind of “flying carpet” measuring 60 by 80 centimeters that can accommodate a passenger and any load moving in very small spaces (it can also rotate on itself) piloted by a handlebar that integrates all the controls and batteries. The Personal Mover Concept can travel up to 30 km without recharging and is part of the studies on logistics and work organization in the large plants of the future.

These unpublished projects are part of the BMW offensive towards sustainable mobility in today’s and tomorrow’s megacities which include even more advanced studies and among these the Bmw Vision E³ Way project which considers the creation of a network of one-way elevated routes, intended exclusively for electric bikes, along the busiest routes in cities. The idea is to create an additional privileged flow for zero-emission individual mobility (in the name of the project it is the synthesis of the concepts: High, Electric and Efficient) in order to make travel even faster without interfering with the rest of the traffic.
