Large-scale Original Dance Drama “Breaking Ice” Set to Premiere in March 2024

The highly anticipated large-scale original dance drama, “Breaking Ice”, produced and performed by the Beijing Opera and Dance Theater under the Beijing Performing Arts Group, has officially opened tickets for its premiere. The play is set to debut at the Grand Theater of Beijing Tianqiao Art Center from March 1 to 3, 2024.
“Breaking Ice” is the latest creation from the Beijing Opera and Dance Theater, following the success of their double-award-winning dance drama, “Five Stars from the East”. The production is the first anti-drug-themed dance drama in China and is adapted from iQIYI’s popular TV series, “Operation Icebreaker”, based on real cases from the “Thunder Anti-Drug” series. It tells the compelling story of two generations of anti-drug policemen who courageously take on the underground drug network, sacrificing blood and life for the cause and the safety of the people.
The premiere release ceremony opened with a powerful men’s group dance titled “Thunder”, paying tribute to the dedicated anti-drug police fighting on the front line. The event also featured a promotional video, providing a glimpse into the suspenseful and captivating storyline of the dance drama. Directors, Huang Yunsong and Wang Zhenbing, along with composer Yang Yi and the creative team, shared their insights and expectations for the upcoming premiere.
