The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, world number 2, fell in the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires against the Chilean Nicolás Jarry, in straight sets.
Jarry, third favorite of the tournament on clay and number 21 in the ranking, surprised by beating the defending champion and top favorite with sets of 7-6 (7/2) and 6-3, in one hour and 55 minutes of action to reach the final.
The Spaniard, 20 years old, suffered a double defeat: the first in Buenos Aires and the first also against Jarry, who at 28 years old anticipated difficulties for Charly. They were even more than expected, so much so that he achieved victory in one hour and 55 minutes.
Alcaraz had already dropped a set in the Rio semifinal and in the round of 32 at Wimbledon 2023, but he had always reacted to the Chilean giant (1.98 meters tall). It didn’t happen this time. Jarry played an impeccable game. He leaned on his serve and grew bigger when he saw that Alcaraz was vulnerable. Finalist of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires 2018, Díaz Acosta began his path to the final with a victory in two sets over the German Daniel Altmaier, then he struck in the second round against his compatriot Francisco Cerúndolo (fourth seeded of the tournament), whom he beat 7-6(3) and 6-0. Finally, yesterday he beat the experienced Serbian Dusan Lajovic by 6-4 and 6-3.

Zeballos-Granollers, finalists in doubles
Horacio Zeballos and his Spanish teammate Marcel Granollers, the top favorites for the title, advanced to the final of the doubles draw of the Argentina Open, after beating the Brazilian Marcelo Melo and the Dutch Matwe Middelkoop by 6-3 and 6-3.
Zeballos, 11 in the world doubles ranking, and Granollers (12), defeated Melo (51) and Middelkoop (47) in an hour and a quarter of play, in the match that opened the day on the central court of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.
