Collapse – AR

Setting the ugliness of the present to music is something of a specialty Collapse. The Danish trio is currently back with a long player that was deliberately designed to be as aggressive, coarse and rough as possible in order to give personal problems the necessary expression. That’s exactly what you’re supposed to hear in the music, although it also wants to convey understanding. Even if everything goes south, there are three gentlemen here who can understand the emotional chaos and anger. And has some of it „AR“ a whole lot.

“DØD” relies on sawing to cutting guitars, an overdose of distortion and swirling drums, which the nervous bassline tries to follow. Angry, pain-filled screams top off the action. Within a very short space of time, an unruly bastard of a song is created that only becomes more raw and more broken with each passing minute. Even the almost completely instrumental breakdown in the middle with its cutting escapades doesn’t provide any relief. When a tricky yet tough finale with a sludge and math character finally emerges from the surprisingly hinted echo chamber, the ear canals decompose on their own.

While you’re still battling the headache, collapses are already a few doors down. The more than eight-minute-long “Decomposition” lives up to its name and surrenders itself to gradual decomposition. Sludge-like structures collide with post-hardcore and all sorts of metallic walls as the track heads towards an unmanageable noise descent in slow motion. Endless loops destroy the last remnants of decency. Also strong is the deep black “Autofagia”, whose blackened hardcore touch is a pleasant surprise and fits perfectly with the so-and-so’s sound – a miracle of puristic malice.

With the song titles of their new long player, Kollapse indicate the life stages of insects, including the inevitable end. It’s clear that you don’t want to win a beauty prize with this, but it would also have sent the wrong signal. On “AR” the Danes actually appear a bit bulkier and uglier, bravely confronting sensory overload and offering an exciting stage for the madness. The trio serves stubborn, experimental noise that, despite all the despair, still has comforting qualities – what a borderline experience.
