Pabel Muñoz, mayor of Quito, was sanctioned this March 8 by the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) after confirming that he committed an electoral infraction.

Muñoz must pay a financial fine of 9,200 dollars, an amount that is the equivalent of 20 unified basic salaries.

The financial fine that the TCE imposed on the mayor of Quito is contemplated in article 278 of the Organic Law of Electoral and Political Organizations of the Republic of EcuadorCode of Democracy.

The period for the official to comply with the payment of those ordered by the electoral entity will be 30 days. The sanction states that Pabel Muñoz must offer a public apology to the citizens of Quito for having incurred an infraction electoral grave.
