The São Paulo Court denied the request to exhume Gal Costa’s body, which had been opened by the son of the singer who died in November 2022, Gabriel Penna Burgos Costa. Responsible for the request, the Public Records Court decided that it is not its responsibility to judge the case.
In theory, the Court’s responsibilities include deciding on the exhumation of people buried in São Paulo, but it pointed out that the case goes beyond its scope due to the fact that the burial took place less than three years ago and because it is decisive for evidence in a criminal case. , filed by Gabriel against Gal’s widow, Wilma Petrillo.
The judge, however, asked that the case be forwarded, as a matter of urgency, to the police authority to investigate and investigate a possible crime that had been committed by her. The case must be kept at the Police Inquiries and Processes Center.
When contacted, the lawyers for the singer’s son and widow did not respond to the report’s attempts to contact them.
Gabriel contests his mother’s death certificate, which determines the cause of death as an acute myocardial infarction, as well as a malignant neoplasm of the head and neck, in reference to the cancer that Gal was facing. He is currently trying to obtain authorization to carry out an autopsy in court.
Her lawyer says that at the time of death there was no doctor present to certify the reason for death and that, therefore, she would have had a “natural death from an unknown cause”. It also claims that Petrillo, who is also Gabriel’s godmother, prohibited any autopsy when receiving Samu at the scene of death. She denies it and says she does not regret not requesting an autopsy on the body.
Two months ago, Gabriel went to court asking for the annulment of the recognition of the stable union that Wilma had with Gal. He thus questions the fraction of the inheritance claimed by the widow, who believes that the boy is being manipulated by his girlfriend and says that Gabriel is not the right person to know about their relationship.
Son and widow also star in a battle of versions that involves the singer’s inheritance, as well as the burial place of her body. For him, Gal wanted to be buried in the São João Batista Cemetery, in Rio de Janeiro, where her mother is. Currently, her body is in the Cemetery of the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in São Paulo, and Petrillo denies the narrative. Petrillo denies that this would be Gal’s wish.
