Darkspace – Dark Space -II

This is probably not the work that purists have been waiting for ten years: Dark Space -II ventures as a presumed epilogue to the previous one Darkspace-series not only represents a break with the already idiosyncratic way of counting the publications, but above all a striking stylistic paradigm shift for the Swiss personnel who have been reshuffled.

Tobias Möckl alias looks without blast beats or other trademarks of previous albums Wroth (Guitars, Vocals) Zhaaral (guitars, vocals) as well Yhs (Bass, Vocals) after the departure of Zorgh In 2019, we thought about a single, 47-minute captivating track 1999 back – and find a cosmic odyssey that largely resembles a dark ambient electro remix of the expected atmospheric black metal signature sound with a doomy aesthetic Darkspace seems.

Dark Space -II receives a minimalist, slowly and monotonously hammering, precisely hissing programmed beat from outer space as a basis, in the noise of otherworldly interference, a distant speech sample from a distance rationally outlines the sci-fi. An industrial riff floats heavy and disembodied in orbit, pastoral textures further condense the atmosphere. Threatening, but not aggressive – enormously ominous and the vastness of space creates an oppressive claustrophobia, a symbiosis of loneliness and paranoia as a desperate vacuum full of inner demons.
After eleven minutes these begin to hiss and the visually powerful imagination also acquires an increasingly cinematographically swelling panorama and spectrum with a constant bandwidth: Dark Space -II a nasty undercurrent breeds.
This turns outwards when Dark Space -II first enters a fog, from which the meditative Leviathan emerges like a phase-shifted reverberation of Pink Cellophone awakens where Hans Zimmer Dune filled with apocalyptic guitar waves. The mystical majesty then finds a dynamic in the relative uniformity, clears the (accompanying) beat and varies it in nuances, concentrates again on its stoic riff or lets the strings muse, then layers the synth arrangements in a more epochal way and works to find an unspectacular conclusion in the round, subversive arc of tension that fits the nature of this return.

At a surprisingly leisurely pace Dark Space -II In this respect, there is certainly a polarizing conflict with one’s own expectations Darkspacewho have either eliminated or radically reweighted many of their trademarks – especially since Möckl is involved Winter landscape has surpassed itself in the recent past.
Subjectively, however, the return of the Swiss (admittedly very dependent on the mood) works in a downright transcendent way, fascinating with a sober objectivity and abstract coldness in the consequence that leaves the comfort zone beyond Dark -1.0 as a self-standing excerpt of a tonal infinity, for which it makes no difference whether you use it here as the narrative of Dark Space an extended prologue or even a new chapter for the project.
