DYMYTRY
Five Angry Men
(Psy-Core Metal)

Label: AFM Records
Format: (LP)

Release: 26.01.2024

It was already announced in October that the Czech singer Protheus would finally leave the band DYMYTRY. To mark the occasion, a final bombastic concert was given in November at the O2 Arena in Prague. The last album “Revolter” was released in addition to the Czech language version also in English under “Revolt” with the German singer Alen “AL” Ljubic, now the successor follows with “Five Angry Men”.

The track “Enemy List” opens the new album with slightly melodic sounds that are more in the direction of power metal. Compared to their origins, the latest work has moved a long way and sounds softer, only the chorus has a little more power. The following “Everything Is Black” is a little harder and the psy-core that DYMYTRY are known for also flows into the track. The core of the socially critical album by the five angry men revolves around the destruction of the earth by human hands and this is also reflected in the following songs. The track “Wake Me Up (Before We Die)” also celebrates the end of humanity and you actually get the feeling that it is a party track.

A theatrical song is played with “Legends Never Die”, which seems quieter in the vocal passages and has a rousing chorus. In general, however, one could wish for more of the usual brutality, as the album is already very shallowly commercial. Despite some musical efforts, the “Three Steps To Hell” do not become more aggressive and the track “In Death We Trust” tries to capture the oppressive atmosphere caused by the development of the atomic bomb, but the musical lamentation only goes in a more brutal direction for a short time.

The song “Dead Living Dead” scores with a powerful chorus and will certainly become a fixture at every concert. “1939” is followed by a brief reference to the beginning of the Second World War and that we should think about ensuring that the events do not repeat themselves. “The Revenant” starts with mystical sounds, alternating between soft melodies and epic sounds. At the end of the album there is the title track “Five Angry Men”, which features rap passages and is actually a highlight, at least musically. Maybe DYMYTRY should build on this track in the future, which has a little more to offer compared to the rest of the album.

Anyone who liked the predecessor “Revolt” will also enjoy this album, but you should under no circumstances compare the two newest works with the old tracks. While DYMYTRY were once a unique, incomparable band, today they are a nice interlude for the evening. In general, it has to be said that the new album is also aimed at a younger generation that is currently enjoying the music revival of the 2000s and is therefore also well addressed by “Five Angry Men”. If you are interested, DYMYTRY will play at the Backstage Club in Munich on March 9th, 2024.
