Three men, spread across the globe, more specifically from Switzerland, America and Sweden, came together online thanks to the pandemic and founded the band ECHO SPLINTER out of their love for different genres. The two guitarists and songwriters Ameya Khare and David Barlett exchanged riff ideas and, after harmonizing, completed the trio with the Nordic goldthroat Anders Ekenstierna, which now results in the first EP “The Last Stand”.
According to their own statements, they offer a mix of modern rock, alternative metal from the 00s and some post-hardcore elements. Troops like TREMONTI and ALTER BRIDGE meet modern rock riffs, haunting keys and anthemic vocals. The often complex, playful riffing incorporates the aforementioned post-hardcore elements, which are said to be inspired by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE or BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.
With enough emotion, a bit of pathos and the necessary feeling, the result is a few really successful, modern hymns that always vary in severity, are easy on the ear and invite you to sing along. Above all, Anders’ emotional performance elevates the already solid material to a higher level. You immediately notice that you’re not dealing with classic newcomers here, but really accomplished musicians and songwriters who harmonize damn well for the short time together and the distance and skilfully play off this mix of genres.
Quiet, clean parts à la CREED can meet heavy riffs, dynamic rhythms and sensitive melodies, and they do so skillfully again and again, with the focus on the different elements being shifted confidently as desired. So everything seems to be from a single source, the famous common thread is there and yet there is more than enough variety.
ECHO SPLINTER is an exciting and already extremely mature project that offers anthemic rock and metal of the modern variety with a good ass-kicking factor and emotions and leaves you wanting more.
