Erika de la Vega’s Brave Battle Against a Benign Brain Tumor: A Story of Resilience and Recovery

Last November 2023, Venezuelan entertainer Erika de la Vega made a shocking announcement to her audience. She revealed that she had been hospitalized in an emergency after learning that a benign tumor had been growing in her brain for at least a decade and that it was time to remove it in order to continue with her life.

In a post on Instagram, Erika de la Vega shared the news, stating, “A few months ago, doing an annual checkup of my body, they found a benign visitor in my head through an MRI, which due to its size showed that it had been growing comfortably for at least a decade.” She made the decision to undergo a craniotomy to remove the tumor as soon as she received the diagnosis.

Following the successful surgery, the 48-year-old entertainer made a quick recovery and was able to return to work, including recording her podcast “In self defense,” where she discusses motivation, success, and emotional growth with other artists. She also spent quality time with her son Matias and her loved ones during her recovery.

Erika de la Vega also appeared on a program hosted by her fellow countryman Alejandro Chabán, where she discussed her experience with the brain tumor. When asked about her initial reaction to the diagnosis, Erika expressed feeling like a storm was coming and initially not believing that such a thing could be happening to her.

Chabán delved into her deepest feelings, asking if there was something Erika was hiding that could have triggered her illness. He also inquired about the minutes before her surgery, to which Erika emotionally responded that it was a difficult and emotional experience.
