It’s about the second investigation of its kind in the EU in light of new regulation of digital platforms, after a similar inquiry against X.

In a statement, the European Commission – the executive arm of the EU – said that the investigation should also evaluate whether TikTok violated current regulations regarding “data access”risk management, Addictive design and harmful content.

The executive vice-president of the Commission, Margrethe Vestager, noted that “TikTok needs to closely examine the services it offers and carefully consider the risks they pose to their users, both young and old.

Why Europe will investigate TikTok

The formal investigation will focus in four areas: how TikTok assesses and mitigates risks systemic; compliance with the protection of privacy and safety of minors age; emission of “trustworthy” advertisingand measures taken to increase transparency.

“The Commission will now carry out a in-depth research as a priority“, noted the Commission.

This investigation is a responsibility of the Commission for the new legislation that regulates the operation of digital platforms in the European space.

This regulation requires that companies multiply efforts to better manage content online.
