The National Peking Opera Company Unveils 2024 Performance Plan

Beijing, April 7 (People’s Daily Online) – The National Peking Opera Company has announced their highly anticipated 2024 performance plan, promising a lineup of new and exciting Peking operas to be unveiled soon.

During a recent spring press conference, Director Wang Yong shared that this year will see the completion and release of a plethora of new Peking Opera works to the audience. Key highlights include the modern Peking opera “Old Auntie” and the new historical drama “Returning to the Homeland”, which will focus on realistic and historical themes. Classic works such as “The Peony Pavilion” and “Women’s History” will also be given a fresh interpretation, alongside the situational concert “Spring and Autumn”, which combines literature and music in a unique way.

To further enrich their performance offerings, the National Peking Opera Company will launch the 2024 “Sound of Spring” and “Rhyme of Autumn” performance seasons during the upcoming holidays. These seasons will pay tribute to the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China through the art of Peking Opera.

2024 also marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Peking Opera legends Zhang Chunhua, Cheng Yanqiu, Mei Lanfang, and Ye Shenglan. To commemorate this milestone, the theater will hold a series of performances dedicated to each master, showcasing their classic works and honoring their artistic legacy.

Furthermore, the National Peking Opera Company will continue to tour new plays and classic productions, bringing works such as “Returning to the Song Dynasty”, “The Protagonist”, “Xiong’an Family”, “Old Auntie”, “Red Lantern”, “Phoenix Returns to the Nest”, and “Dragon and Phoenix Present” to audiences across different regions.
