Hollywood Celebrates Success of “Oppenheimer” at the Oscars

In a night filled with glitz, glamour, and excitement, Hollywood celebrated the success of the blockbuster film “Oppenheimer” at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday. The biographical movie, which tells the story of the race to build the first atomic bomb, took home seven Oscars, including the prestigious Best Picture award.

Irish actor Cillian Murphy was awarded the Best Actor trophy for his role as theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the leader of the United States‘ efforts to develop atomic weapons during World War II. The film’s director, Christopher Nolan, also received the Best Director award for his work on “Oppenheimer.”

Addressing the audience during his acceptance speech, Nolan reflected on the significance of the film’s subject matter. “We made a movie about the man who built the atomic bomb, and for better or worse, we are living in Oppenheimer’s world,” he said. Murphy dedicated his award to peacemakers around the world.

“Oppenheimer” was not only a critical success but also a commercial hit, grossing nearly $1 billion at the box office. This win marks Nolan’s first Best Picture Oscar, adding to his impressive list of directorial achievements that includes films like “The Dark Knight” trilogy and “Inception.”

In addition to “Oppenheimer,” other notable winners at this year’s Oscars included “20 Days in Mariupol” for Best Documentary and “The Last Repair Shop” for Best Documentary Short. Ukrainian President Zelensky praised the former for shedding light on Russia’s war of aggression against his country.
