“Picture this” and “Tom Gregory” brought color (and of course music) to the Vienna gasometer!
I wanted to escape the dreary November that Saturday evening and went to the gasometer at a late hour. “Tom Gregory” and “Picture This” were on the program and both bands impressed me very much at the Frequency Festival in summer 2023. It’s hardly surprising that I was really looking forward to that evening!
„picture thisstarted as the opening act, starting at 8 p.m. And it seemed that a whole section of the audience was already a fan of the four-piece group. and whoever wasn’t already became one now. The singer showed full physical effort with his jumps on stage. The band also didn’t shy away from audience interaction.
After one of my favorite songs, “One Drink”, they even paid homage to their Irish roots with the number “Irish Traditional Song” – for everyone who didn’t realize at the time that they came from Ireland (because they mentioned that afterwards every other song). The crowd was impressed and after an hour and fifteen they were really heated up.
After a short waiting time, “tom gregory” on stage. Drummers and guitarists were positioned at the back of the stage, otherwise Gregory stood alone on stage. The only thing that made the show difficult for him was his microphone stand – because he performed quite a few tricks with this microphone stand! He supported himself, swung back and forth, strutted across the stage and lifted it up to let the audience sing.
After the second song, Tom Gregory leaned down to a fan and signed a poster for him. And he also stayed in close contact with his fans in attendance – two of them even made it onto the stage, and a marriage proposal was the result! Hearts in the whole room just melted.
In addition to all the audience interaction, he of course also had a few songs up his sleeve: the cell phone light-holding song “Let Your Love Come Get Me,” for example, but also the hits “Rather Be You,” “Let It Be History” and “Small Steps.” . One of my highlights was the number “Northern Lights” – there was a kind of magic in the room that really grabbed me. I personally could have continued listening to this song on an endless loop!
And at some point it was time for its triumphant conclusion: it was illuminated by rainbow lights and presented a matching rainbow flag! Tom Gregory and Picture This managed to add a bit of color to that gray November day with their performances (and with the help of their lighting technicians) – we’re only too happy to come back!
