Bree/Hasselt –
Bwana, Yesnomaybe and ISE. These are the three winners of De Nieuwe Lichting 2024. Thanks to two laureates from our province, this edition of the Studio Brussels music competition also sounds remarkably Limburgish.

They had already half-demolished the stage beforehand. So when the men of Yesnomaybe heard their name during the final of De Nieuwe Lichting, the stage and their microphone had to be completely renovated. Such was the joy of the quartet. “Pukkelpop here we come,” shouted frontman Ferre Achten and his companions. De Hasselaar, who now lives and studies in Ghent, had previously made it clear that a place on the bill of the festival in Kiewit is their main goal. But they were clearly very happy with this victory.
With Hypnagogic they made a song about the first state of dreams just before you fall asleep, but with their “loud guitar music” they had clearly woken up the listeners of Studio Brussels and the many voters.
Tears
Tears of happiness at ISE. 18-year-old Ise Smeets clearly knows what winning is. The singer from Bree, who doesn’t need more than her guitar and voice, already won a place at Pukkelpop last year thanks to a victory, won Sound Track and now had another prize. She wasn’t just going to celebrate for the rest of the evening. There will also be a party tomorrow during Chrysostom at school.
ISE collected votes with Goodbye Letter. But saying goodbye to Studio Brussels is not an immediate option. Together with Yesnomaybe and the Ostend singer Friedel Dufait alias Bwana, ISE wins airplay on Studio Brussels, they receive professional guidance from VI.BE to further develop as artists, and they can play a support act at the Ancienne Belgique in 2024.
YesNoMayBe will play at Fumprock in Diepenbeek on February 17.
