The NBA has been introduced to Toumani Camara since this season. The 23-year-old from Brussels has already collected minutes in 43 matches for the Portland Trail Blazers. You may have already noticed that Camara has four butterflies on his right calf. In conversation with Eleven/DAZN he told the story behind it.
In June last year, Camara became the second Belgian ever to play in the NBA, the leading basketball league in the world. After being selected by the Phoenix Suns in the famous Draft and then completing the Summer League, Camara was sent to Portland. He has now played 43 games with the Trail Blazers. He was already good for almost seven points per game. Camara is having an excruciatingly difficult season with the Trail Blazers so far. The team is in the penultimate place in the Western Conference with 31 defeats and just 13 wins.
Anyone who has ever watched a Camara match may have noticed that he has four butterflies tattooed on his right calf. He explained its meaning to Eleven/DAZN, rights holder of the NBA in our country.
“Initially I wanted to do something to honor my sister who died at the age of three. I didn’t really know her. I also don’t really know why my connection with her is so strong. But that bond is something that I want to have with me forever, for the rest of my life. At first I wanted one butterfly, but I didn’t think that fit. So I decided to include the family members who mean the most to me. My sister is at the bottom, she is the smallest butterfly. Then you have my brother, my mom and myself. This tattoo perfectly reflects my values.”
