by admin

TURIN. Stefano Lo Russo is officially the mayor of Turin. This morning, in fact, in the Red Room of the Municipality, the proclamation of the new first citizen and of the councilors and councilors of the town assembly was held. The official signature of the proxies for the eleven councilors and the councilors who will make up the municipal council is shortly around the corner. For the first time Lo Russo spoke as mayor in office and not as elected mayor: «It is a great honor and a huge responsibility. A very important challenge awaits us, that of restarting Turin, because this is the mandate given to us, ”said the new mayor. Then he thanked his challengers Paolo Damilano and Valentina Sganga because «we set a good example for how we discussed the issues of the city, with mutual respect. We must be proud of this electoral campaign ».

The three priorities
Lo Russo then indicated the three major priorities of the city. “The first it is work and economic restart. Turin emerges tested by the economic crisis and the pandemic and has suffered more than other centers from a great period of difficulty. The economic restart means the restart of the city, it is our top priority. And it must concern manufacturing, culture, tourism, the university city, trade and craftsmanship ». The second it is «social justice: Turin is an unequal city that we must mend and make all the Turinese feel protagonists. It is up to us to bring rights and services accessible to all people ». The third it is «the international vocation of the city. We have large investment networks to deploy such as infrastructure and relationships. But there is also the issue of the climate and environmental emergency. It is a question that challenges everyone and Turin must be an absolute protagonist also in international terms. We have to be a model of careful development. We have a huge responsibility towards our children ».

The methods of government
The new mayor also explained what the governing method will be. “There will be listening and discussion, essential for participation and affection for institutions. The listening will also be addressed to the intermediate bodies, which in recent years have undergone a work of destruction. The confrontation will also take place with the institutions, putting the State and the decentralized ones at the center in a cooperative and dialectical perspective. In this sense, the municipal council and the districts will have a very important role ». Then “merit and skills, in the choice of people these two elements will be the lighthouse that will guide the administration.” And finally: “The innovation: Turin is in great need of it, in ideas and customs. The time has come to try to change something, even among people, since change walks on their legs ». To achieve all this, the mayor indicated three elements. “First of all the rhuman sources, because people are at the center of change. We must motivate them by enhancing internal skills, by training and also by expanding the workforce ». Hence «the reconomic resources, public and private. As regards the former, it means having accounts in order, rationalizing expenses to free up resources to make investments and use those coming from the NRP and European funds. The city has many private resources and we must activate and convey them. Then we have to recreate on a new basis a fabric that makes up a system, that shares projects, knowledge and knowledge ».
The promise
The mayor closed with a promise to his majority and minorities: “My door will always be open for constructive confrontation.”
