Milei targeted journalists who described him as “undemocratic”

This Sunday, the president Javier Miley targeted those journalists that they have been treated as “undemocratic”. The president criticized him after citing a publication where threatening posters are seen showing him dead and shot in the head.

“The democrats who all the time called me undemocratic…Let’s see where those journalists who joined this wave of violence against me are condemning…I almost have no doubt that after throwing the stone they will hide their hand…”, he expressed through his social media account. X.

The publication of the libertarian president arose from a poster of the account “Austrian School of Economics”, of the economist Diego Mauricio Macana Roa, who decided to report on his profile the threatening messages he receives against the president.

“Lately, I am receiving messages of this type, where Milei appears dead and with a message like: we are going to start killing liberals, we will not rest until we see Milei dead, etc. Although I take this type of thing from who it comes from, that is, from some idiots, sometimes it is necessary to have a certain reservation,” she pointed out along with the intimidating images.

Milei and the attacks on journalism

This month, the Freedom of Expression Monitoring of FOPEAwhich reports on attacks on journalists working in the country, evaluated the first 100 days of Javier Milei’s government and specified that 4 out of every 10 attacks on the press involved the president or to his ministers.

“The figure summarizes the dynamics of the relationship between the new head of state and the press: Milei regularly disqualifies, insults, accuses and verbally attacks journalists and media in his speeches or in the interviews he gives,” the organization said in the report published on its website.

In this regard, the statement added: “At this time, the majority of journalists had limited and restricted access to the National Executive Branch and many of them suffered direct attacks that were later replicated by followers and militants of the president, from social networks and even in the streets.”

“A fact that further aggravates the situation is that It is the head of state himself who uses his social media accounts to multiply messages that disqualify colleaguesin several cases from unverified accounts that directly attack the credibility of journalists, which, ultimately, generates misinformation among citizens,” the statement added.

Specifically, FOPEA Monitoring indicated that between December 10 and March 19, 37 cases of attacks on the pressof which 15 had the National Executive Branch as the aggressor, in eight of these cases carried out by mercy and two for his spokesperson Manuel Adorni.
