The 96th annual Academy Awards took place on Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the industry’s best and brightest were honored for their outstanding work in film. “Oppenheimer” emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home the coveted Best Film award, as well as Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Cast Actor for Robert Downey Jr.
Emma Stone was recognized for her performance in “Poor Things” with the Best Actress award, while Da’Vine Joy Randolph won Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Holdovers.” The film “Anatomie d’une chute” (“Anatomy of a fall”) received the award for Best Original Script, while “American Fiction” won for Best Adapted Script.
Other notable winners included “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie” for Best Original Song, “The Zone of Interest” for Best Sound, and “Godzilla Minus One” for Best Visual Effects. In the documentary categories, “20 Days in Mariupol” took home the award for Best Documentary Feature.
International feature film “The Zone of Interest” from Great Britain also received recognition, as did animated feature film “Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka” (“The Boy and the Heron”). Additionally, “Poor Things” was honored in multiple categories, including Makeup and Hair, Costume Design, and Production Design.
The night was filled with memorable moments, including Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish winning Best Original Song for “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie,” and Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, and Robert Downey Jr. each receiving awards for their exceptional performances.
