Rome, Mayor Gualtieri inaugurates the “Camilleri Fund”: a gift for the city

«A wonderful gift given to Rome and to all lovers of Andrea Camilleri’s literature». Thus the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, defined the Camilleri Fund, which is based in via Corridoni 21, which “will be a great cultural ferment”. We “will participate to enhance this extraordinary laboratory, to see how an intellectual is formed and the many gems that are found there,” continued Gualtieri.

Camilleri, explained Gualtieri, «designed and donated this archive to us. It is important to see that an archive of a European and very Roman intellectual is born in Rome, with notes, scripts, correspondence, which will be fundamental for the scientific community, but also a pole that we will enhance and, I imagine, will also be open to simple readers – has concluded Gualtieri – who will want to see and experience the workshop of works that have fascinated so many ».
The archive preserves all his books, translations, essays and graduation theses on his work, as well as his library together with 120 folders, the documentation organized by sections: the unpublished works, the 60 theatrical directions, the essays of his classes of direction, works in Rai as director of the radio programming of prose content, over 350 including screenplays and television productions. The first exhibition curated in the space of via Corridoni, entitled «The course of things. Andrea Camilleri and his archive »is scientifically coordinated by Andreina, Elisabetta and Mariolina Camilleri, daughters of the writer, and by Patrizia Severi, archivist and curator of the exhibition.
